Without God in my life, I am nothing but an empty soul. I have tried various religions throughout the years, with varying success. The best fit for me so far has been through the Christian church.
We had attended a church in Hendersonville, NC. At the menu to the left are messages from those services. We are now church shopping. Both Christian churches. One is less formal, is a new church, and has great pastors. The other one is very formal and meets in a church hall, and has the mixture of the "pomp and circumstance" we like. Tough choice.
Update: August 27, 2010
Unfortunately, we haven't found a church in SC yet. The further South you go, the more closed-minded people can be. We were hoping to find an open and affirming church here, but it doesn't seem that one exists. I had thought about Episcopalian, because the denomination as a whole supports gay rights, but that doesn't mean that the individual churches do. I'd imagine that the churches around here do not support gay rights. Sundays just aren't right without checking in with God in a formal setting. The search continues.
Update: November 11, 2009:
We made our decision. We decided to go with the smaller, less formal church. It is called Land of the Sky United Church of Christ. As I mentioned, the pastors are great and we have been really impressed with the sermons we have heard. The sermons have been a great mix of intelligent, spiritual, and cultural components that make them both interesting and informative. We also like that the church is unique; in addition to celebrating All Saint's Day complete with an altar, last week they had various "stations" set up to honor God but also have fun. We had a painting station, a scrabble station (use the letters to spell out what God means to you), a "worry box", an activist table, a room of meditation and prayer, and a praying wall. I am sure we will continue to enjoy going to this church.
